Contributions from corporations and businesses provide critical support to The MacDowell Colony and its efforts to nurture creativity among artists of the highest talent and promise. The Colony works closely with global and local business leaders who recognize the value of financing creativity. National and international corporations and publishers contribute each year to MacDowell’s National Benefit in New York City. A host of New Hampshire businesses sponsor MacDowell’s annual New Hampshire Benefit, as well as Medal Day, the Colony’s free open house and annual celebration of creativity.
The Wall Street Journal, which has explored MacDowell’s artist residency program as a model for inspiring business productivity, notes that: “By bringing people together in an unconventional setting, reducing distractions and promoting exchanges across disciplines, the colony has spawned remarkable creativity.” To read the Wall Street Journal article, “Nurturing Innovation”, click here.
Here are a few of the many ways that corporations and businesses can support the Colony:
The MacDowell Colony hosts three annual fundraising events that provide direct support to artists through donations and sponsorships: the New Hampshire Benefit and Medal Day in New Hampshire, and the National Benefit in New York City.
Many residencies each year are provided through Fellowships established by endowed and recurring corporate gifts. Gifts at the level of $10,000 or more carry naming opportunities and ensure that one or more of the 250 artists who come to work at the Colony annually receives creative support and services. Endowed Fellowships have been provided by several corporations, including Chubb LifeAmerica and the Philip Morris Company.
MacDowell’s vibrant community programs, MacDowell in the Schools and MacDowell Downtown, have inspired rich dialogues between professional artists and more than 7,000 students and adults in Peterborough and surrounding communities. These and other special initiatives, which have received corporate and foundation support, currently offer underwriting opportunities.
